Benefit #3 of a Custom Medical Cart Solution: System Design and Family Design

Posted by Nicole Reese on June 24, 2015

Beyond incorporating your company’s logo and colors into your custom medical cart, a key way to build on your product branding is to maintain consistency of design. By doing so, you’ll continually reinforce the company’s identity, which will help you build and maintain customers’ trust over time.

When it comes to building design consistency for custom medical carts, there are two ways you can go: system design or family design.

System Design

A system design can set you apart from your competitors by giving your equipment an integrated, professional system look. Your medical device will have a “complete” feel as it will perfectly fit together with the custom cart to perform a specific set tasks or procedures.

For example, if you have a small device installed on a standard cart, it may either look mismatched or, worse, like nothing more than a laptop sitting on a table. However, with a custom system design cart solution, your device will be integrated into the cart to look like the device needs the cart. This gives both the cart and device a higher-end, professional system look and feel that can intrinsically increase user confidence in the quality of the device.

Family Design

If you have existing devices with carts or plan to add more carts to your product line-up, it may be important to your brand to create a “family” of carts. Although the function for each cart may be different, if you choose a custom solution you’ll have the ability to select similar materials, colors and shapes for each cart and ensure consistency across the full line of available options.

A cardiorespiratory diagnostics equipment manufacturer took this approach when it launched a new platform of a highly successful diagnostic system into the ICU market. This new platform, intended for use within the extremely limited space of an ICU, needed to look like part of the main product family. HUI was able to design a cart that provided the manufacturer with a consistent brand image across markets, while meeting all the technical and usage requirements of the new device.

System design and family design are both great ways to incorporate brand consistency. The method you choose to go with for your custom medial cart will depend on your specific project’s needs and the breadth and depth of your product line.

In the next post of our “Five Benefits of a Custom Medical Cart Solution” series, we’ll discuss the, sometimes dreaded, topic of regulatory requirements and how a custom cart solution can be the surest way to pass regulatory testing requirements.
