Our FlexiStarTM, VersaStarTM, and VersaPlusTM standard cart platforms can be customized or modified in a variety of ways. This approach is great for teams who want semi-custom options and a fast path to manufacturing.

A fully custom approach starts with a concept or an industrial design. This approach is a great fit for teams who hope to make very acute decisions about their product and want to offer a more robust point of care experience.

Proposal & Concept Stages
Our process begins with a discovery meeting to understand your medical device and project needs. We frequently work with customers alongside their existing design or integration partners. At this stage - we align on your vision and begin to create a clear path towards manufacturing based on your teams needs, internal capabilities, budget, and timeline
Engineering & Prototype Stages
Next, our engineering team begins to create functional models to prepare your cart for manufacturing. During this stage our design engineers will prepare for manufacturing (DFM), create consistencies, and integrate their IEC-60601 expertise. At the end of this stage, our team will build a functioning prototype of your custom cart.
Pilot, Improvement, and Revision Stages
These final stages allow the cart to run a pilot, while creating efficiencies for continuous improvement. Finally, we make any remaining revisions and move towards production.

HUI Manufacturing has been in business for over ninety years. We are equipped with with full end-to-end manufacturing capabilities including fabrication, powder-coating, assembly, quality, and logistics. We offer small batch, low minimum purchase orders to help you launch your new product and scale production as demand for your device grows.
Total cost will vary widely based on the decisions made during the design and development process. To avoid heavy costs in development or manufacturing - it's important to avoid overdesigning your custom cart and make decisions that align with your products anticipated lifecycle.
If your project is cost centric, HUI's product development team can advise your team on the best way to achieve your target price. During the development cycle, HUI's engineers will advise on manufacturing efficiencies to optimize your total cost. HUI manufacturing offers small batch orders and price-breaks based on the size of the purchase order.
The time it takes to develop a custom medical cart varies widely depending on the complexity of the product design, necessary components, tooling, revisions, and number of key stakeholders. The average development cycle for a fully custom medical cart is around 364 days, with some robotic surgical systems taking two or three years. Our fastest development cycle for a customized standard cart is just under 60 days.
