Security Options for Your Locking Medication Carts

Posted by Shannon Pelky on November 10, 2017

Whether your medical cart holds medicine, supplies, devices or sensitive information, you want to prevent the cart’s contents from getting into the wrong hands. No matter what security features you’re looking into, we understand the importance of protecting your investment. That’s why we’ve put together this list explaining the security options available for your medical cart.

Security Features

All of the methods we’ve listed below accomplish the same tasks—keeping your cart secure. Your cart’s intent and requirements will be the main factors dictating which option or combination of options is right for you.

Physical Keys

Traditional Key Lock

Requires individual keys or a single key for the whole cart to gain access to drawers, cassettes, doors, etc.

Special Consideration: Narcotic Cabinet

If your cart will be housing narcotics, you may want to consider storing them in a double-door, dual-locking enclosure within the cart. This enclosure protects the contents with two separate locks.

Cable Locks

Wall Lock

Locks a cart to the wall by using steel cables or chains to connect the cart to a wall-mounted box.

Device Locks

Some devices come with their own security features already in place to add a cable that can be connected to the medical cart. There are also cables available for devices without those security features as well.

Alarms

An alarm feature can be programed into the keypad so an alarm goes off when the door is left open for longer than the expected period of time.
